Car j'aimerais amorcer une réflexion sur un sujet tabou: l'homosexualité. Je suis consciente du risque d'être mal comprise, de part et d'autre... le terrain est, après tout, miné. Mais par respect pour les personnes qui se voient cantonner dans une boîte étiquettée "homosexuel," par désir de considérer une question qui soulève des réactions émotionnelles fortes du côté chrétien, et par nécéssité personnelle, je m'y lance. {Clique sur le lien en bas de l'anglais pour poursuivre...}

At the risk of being shot down ...
Well, yes, it could come to that, by words that it! Because although the word tolerance has become the universal value to be applied in all circumstances, it has been hijacked by the concept of "politically correct," which has also crept into today's value system on tip toe and is now a major criteria for limiting the freedom of speech, itself a value people have died for. I am well get shot down as a political heretic. Too bad. human beings are worth far more than being considered politically correct.Because I would like to get going some thought on a taboo subject: homosexuality. I am aware that I run the risk of being totally misunderstood, from different sides... it does consist, after all, in walking on mined territory. But out of respect for people who are put in the box marked "homosexual," out of the desire to think about a question that sparks strong emotional reactions from many Christians, and because I need to do it for personal reasons, I'm going for it.

I would like the person of Christ to be my inspiration, he who flouted the politically and religiously correct of his time by welcoming those who were labelled "sinners" and "people of bad reputation." And I'm doing this both for those of homosexual identity, whom Christians can be quick to label "sinners," and for Christians whom the latter often label as "people of bad reputation" - that is, intolerant.
It seems to me that there is an urgent need to search for basic, common a priori. Without them, we can only find ourselves in a dialogue between the deaf and blind. Here are a few I've come up with.
- We are all human beings, born a certain day and destined to die on some other unknown day
- We are all faced with living a life that will be filled with happy things and tragic things, sickness & heath, etc.
- As we grow up, we are influenced by our different people surroundings: family, school, work colleagues, friends, leisure places, politics, ambient culture, (which includes the taboo areas,) books, newspapers, telly and so on.
- We cannot avoid this process, but we can, at certain moments, become conscious of it and make a choice between different influences: the ones I want to consciously appropriate and the ones I want to consciously reject. This gives each of us a particular guiding framework within which we want to live.
Yes I would :-). Hard topic to tackle!
